When Dawn Moeser took over as the youth group leader at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball 12 years ago, she knew she had to change the youth program to get more students interested in attending youth group on Wednesday evenings and participating in other youth group activities. She did that, and her youth group program has been ‘flourishing’ ever since, attracting not only students who attend St. Joseph’s Catholic Church but also other students in the Kimball community. They meet regularly to talk about their faith and issues affecting them at school and in their private lives, and they also place a high priority on doing things throughout the year that benefit their entire community.

KIMBALL – When Dawn Moeser moved back to Kimball from Gering 12 years ago, she started attending St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Kimball.
She was asked by her priest if she would be willing to teach Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD), and she said yes. Not long after that, she took over as the junior high/senior high Director of Religious Education at the church on Wednesday nights after the previous coordinator stepped down.
Moeser was excited to help, and every week she looked forward to organizing the different age group classes and even teaching herself. However, after a few weeks, she started feeling the need to make some changes to the Wednesday night youth group program.
“I noticed that there weren’t that many kids coming, and it didn’t seem like the kids who were there were interested in being there, and they really weren’t learning much,” she said. “I wanted to change that. I wanted to do something that would encourage more kids to come and that would get the kids excited about coming on Wednesday nights.”
