Several years ago, multiple families left Kentucky to start a Mennonite church in Torrington, and during their journey, Golden Prairie Delights was created. While the store has grown in popularity because of its unique and impressive items, the owners say their mission has never been about making money. Instead, it’s been about using the store to uplift and serve others.

TORRINGTON, Wyo. – A little over 10 years ago, Ben Mast, Nick Wenger and about three other guys from a Mennonite church in Kentucky took a road trip out west. They weren’t on vacation. They were on a mission – to find a place where they could start another mennonite church.

Of all the places they visited, the one that appealed to them the most was Goshen County, partly because of the area’s focus on agriculture.

“The reason we like ag communities is because of our families. We like to farm and ranch,” Ben said.

The biggest reason, though, they were drawn to Goshen County was because at the time, there wasn’t a mennonite church anywhere close to that area.

“The closest one was an hour and a half away in Cheyenne,” Ben said. “Our goal as a church was to start a mennonite church in an area where there wasn’t one.”
