MITCHELL – For as long as Kim Cantrell can remember, she’s been interested in art.

“I always crafted as a kid,” she said. “My mom sewed a lot, and she taught me how to sew. I remember going to Ben Franklin all the time to get supplies, and I would make crafts, and I would also knit and crochet.”

As she got older, Cantrell got involved in other areas of art.

“I took a couple pottery classes in high school, and I really enjoyed those, too,” she said.

When Cantrell began attending Kearney State College in 1980, she got into quilting.

“The first quilt I made was for my college dorm room,” she said. “It kind of took off from there.”
