A passion for helping children who are deaf

Kimball High School senior Jenna Greenwood has always had a soft spot in her heart for children who are deaf. She began learning sign language four years ago so she could communicate better with children who are hard of hearing, and now she’s planning to make a career out of helping children who are deaf or who have other disabilities.

KIMBALL – Every now and then growing up, Jenna Greenwood would see someone who was deaf.

She always wished she knew sign language so she could communicate with them.

“Most of us can talk to each other and express our feelings verbally, but most deaf people can’t do that, so I always thought it would be nice if there were more people they could communicate with using sign language,” said Greenwood, who’s a senior at Kimball High School. “I always wanted to be able to communicate with [people who are deaf] so I could carry on a conversation with them, learn more about them, and maybe help them or make them feel better.”
