A soft spot in her heart for people with special needs

Bristyn Cummings, a senior at Chadron High School, has always had a close relationship with her older brother Bastian, who has special needs. That led to her wanting to help more people who have special needs, and now she’s in her third year volunteering with Chadron Special Olympics. Her desire is to make a career out of helping people with special needs, so she’s decided to become an elementary special education teacher.

CHADRON – Whenever Bristyn Cummings spends time around people with special needs, like her older brother Bastian Barnes, an excited, special feeling comes over her.

It warms her heart, she said, to see people with special needs feeling happy.

“Seeing them smile is one of the greatest feelings in the world,” she said.
