A special, memorable quilt

Ruby Moon of Bridgeport wanted to do something extra nice for her grandma after her grandma’s husband passed away. Moon, who’s been quilting for more than 20 years, decided to use some of her grandpa’s clothing to make a special queen-size quilt. After nearly 12 emotional months of working on the project, Moon surprised her grandma with the beautiful quilt in September.

BRIDGEPORT – When Ruby Moon’s grandpa, Donald Smith, passed away in March 2019, she wanted to do something extra special for her grandma, Carrie Smith.

Moon, who lives in Bridgeport, came up with the idea to make her grandma a quilt, but not just a regular quilt. She wanted to make a quilt using clothes that her grandpa had worn. Donald and Carrie were married for over 70 years.

“I knew my grandma would like a personalized quilt, especially since she could cuddle up in it and have part of my grandpa wrapped around her anytime,” Moon said. “Plus, I thought it would be neat to make something that could get passed on to the next generation.”
