Jazlyn Adams, a junior at Scottsbluff High School, has always been interested in makeup, and a few years ago she started to do character makeup designs on herself and for others. She has been and continues to be a key part of her high school’s musical as a lead makeup artist, and her makeup design skills were even recognized at the state level in May as she was awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Design for Makeup in the Nebraska High School State Theater Academy competition, sponsored by the Omaha Performing Arts. This summer she attended a makeup artist camp at the Cinema Makeup School in LA – the same school she plans to attend after she graduates from SHS in 2022. She said her ultimate goal is to be a professional makeup designer for movie sets.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Jazlyn Adams of Scottsbluff remembers playing with children’s makeup when she was about 4 years old.
“My parents would buy me these little makeup kits from Claire’s, and I would give myself different looks with the little palettes I had,” said Adams, who will be a junior at Scottsbluff High School this fall. “I thought it was a lot of fun.”
Adams’ interest in makeup only grew from there, especially makeup that’s used on actors and actresses during plays, movies, musicals, or other performances.
“In fourth or fifth grade, I was a mouse in a Cinderella play at the Midwest Theater, and I remember thinking, ‘Wow, whoever did the makeup on these people is super cool,’” she said. “I wanted to be able to do that, too.”
