AG SPOTLIGHT with Chris Cook of Goshen County

VALERIE ERETH

Nspire Today! Ag Writer

GOSHEN COUNTY – Chris Cook farms in Goshen County with his wife, Tanya, and sons Brady, 15, and Matt, 13, as well as Chris’ parents, Robert and Betty, and his brother, Robb.

Q: Tell me about yourself, your family, your operation.

COOK: “We are just west of Lingle, between Lingle and Ft. Laramie, the beginning of the Valley system, just a few miles from where the canal broke. We had 45 days with no water. God provided the rain that year. I actually think the rain maybe had something to do with the break. We ended up having a pretty good year. … We grow mainly corn and alfalfa, and we’re now trying something new in soybeans. We have about 1,200 total acres. I just finished up combining soybeans last night. We are trying some new projects, and soybeans is one of them. We have done some edibles before but decided to try this. Growing soybeans in our low humidity climate is something new for us. We have found some good weed control options.”
