Alliance’s Britny Brass named Nspire Today!’s Hometown Hero of the Week, sponsored by Schank Roofing

Britny Brass, of Alliance, has been named Nspire Today!’s Hometown Hero of the Week, sponsored by Schank Roofing in Scottsbluff.

Brass is a lab tech at Box Butte General Hospital in Alliance. She also serves in the US Army and just got back from a stateside service. She graduated from Alliance High School in 2011, where she played basketball.

She studied at George Washington University School of Medicine before joining the Army as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. She’s been employed at Box Butte General Hospital as a lab tech since August 2016.

Lab Manager Angelica Valdez said: “Although Britny has been with us a short while, we knew early on she was a unique and a very dedicated individual. Her military background was evident in the respect she displayed and the way she carried herself. Britny is very committed to her work in the laboratory as well as in the hospital. She looks to help where needed and doesn’t overlook an opportunity to learn and improve her skills. She takes each and every assignment and completes it effortlessly and without hesitation. She works diligently and is not afraid to ask questions. Her dedications and compassion are manifested in her performance. Britny takes pride in the quality of work she produces, always ensuring its accuracy and precision.

“She genuinely cares about the patient’s wellbeing and is a strong advocate of making sure things are done right. In April 2018, Britny was called to serve stateside in Texas. There she exercised her many abilities aiding the military in various tasks. After a year of deployment, she returned to Alliance and went back to work at BBGH. We were thrilled to have her back! Britny is an exemplary employee. Her work ethic and integrity are commendable. It is a blessing to have someone like her to not just serve our country but to choose to serve our patients here at Box Butte General Hospital as well!”

Brass said: “I started looking into joining the Army when I was a junior right before I turned 17. I knew college was coming up, and I could not decide what I wanted to go to school for in the medical field. So, I knew the Army would provide that opportunity for me to explore different things in the medical field. I knew if the job I chose within the Army wasn’t for me, then I could use my education benefits through the military to go back to school for something else.

“I got really lucky, though, and became a Medical Laboratory Technician, which I really love! Also, joining the military gave me a chance to be part of something bigger than just myself.

She added, “I enlisted in October 2010, so I am coming up on nine years of being in. I just recently got promoted to Staff Sergeant in the beginning of July and re-enlisted in the Army for another three years. I am currently planning on staying in for my full 20 years.

“My favorite thing about the Army is the people I encounter and the friendships I have made along the way – and also all the places I have gotten to go with the Army. My favorite things about BBGH are the employees and getting to interact with the patients. Even though I was gone for a year, when I came back everyone was so welcoming and friendly! It’s like I had never left. I also like how supportive BBGH was when I had to leave for the Army.”
