BAYARD – Garret Hopkins, a senior at Bayard High School, has been named Nspire Today!’s Male Student of the Month for January. He has a 4.0 GPA. He’s involved in FFA, basketball and golf. He’s been involved in FFA all four years of high school, and he’s also been involved in basketball throughout his high school career, including starting at forward his junior and senior years. He also started competing in golf last spring. After graduating from high school, he plans to attend a tech college. His parents are Paula and Sterling Hopkins.
Q: How has your senior year of high school been going so far?
HOPKINS: “It’s been going good. It’s been pretty easy, actually. I don’t have all the hard classes I had last year and my sophomore year.”
Q: Does this school year seem a lot different to you because you’re a senior?
HOPKINS: “A little bit. Walking around the halls, I’m one of the oldest ones at school, so I know the younger kids are looking up to me. But other than that, it hasn’t felt too different.”
Q: Are you excited or a little sad that this is your final year of high school?
HOPKINS: “I’m pretty excited. I’m ready to move on and figure out what I want to do with my life.”
