BRIDGEPORT – Jocelyn Pohl, who graduated from Bridgeport High School in May and is now attending the University of Nebraska at Kearney, has been named First State Bank’s Female Student of the Month for August. Pohl was one of the valedictorians of her class, and she graduated with a 4.0 GPA. Her parents are Jeff and Michelle Pohl.

Q: How excited are you to start your college career?

POHL: “I’m really excited. I had a lot of success in high school, and I’m excited about carrying it on in college.”

Q: What are you planning to major in?

POHL: “I’m not sure yet. I had thought about going into the medical field – like physical therapy – but I don’t know now. There’s so many options. But I’ll be majoring in either biology or math.”

Q: So do you think you’ll end up doing something in the medical field?

POHL: “I don’t think so. I’m almost thinking about doing something in ag now. I grew up on a farm my whole life, and I really like that. I had to get away from it for a little bit this summer because I took a medical internship at Regional West, but I think being away from all of that and being in a different setting kind of made me miss it a little more. I went out to the fair this year, and I didn’t enter anything, and when I got there, I was like, ‘Oh, man, I miss this. I want to share this with other people.’ So, I’m really interested in ag education and leadership/communication – something like that. I’m really interested in maybe being an ag teacher one day. But I’ve changed my mind a lot this past year, so we’ll see.”
