Carlos Palomo of Alliance High School named TC & More’s Teacher of the Week

Carlos Palomo of Alliance High School has been named TC & More’s Teacher of the Week.

Palomo is in his fifth year of teaching and coaching for Alliance Public Schools. He’s spent the last four years as a physical education teacher at the high school. He’s in charge of the weights and conditioning classes. He’s also the Bulldogs’ head softball coach. His first year in Alliance, he taught PE and coached at the middle school.

Palomo is a 2009 Gering High School graduate. He played baseball and took classes at WNCC for two years, and then he continued his baseball and academic career at UNK. He graduated from UNK in 2015.

In addition to his teaching duties at APS, Palomo runs the summer weights program in Alliance, and he also is the head coach of the Alliance Spartans senior Legion baseball team, which earned a runner-up finish in the state tournament this summer.

The person who nominated Palomo said, “Carlos is one of the most caring and determined teachers and coaches you’ll ever meet. He wants the best for all of his students and athletes. He pushes everyone in his PE classes to get better, and he also encourages kids to do as well as they can in their other classes. He’s a great coach, too. He supports everybody, even outside of school. If anyone needs his help, he’s there for them. He’s a great role model for kids in our community.”

Palomo said he’s enjoyed teaching and coaching in Alliance.

“The staff works together well, the administration creates a lot of opportunities for kids, and the kids are fun to work with. We have amazing kids here, and it’s fun watching them grow,” he said. “I absolutely love what I’m doing, and I’m honored to be part of Alliance High School.”

Palomo said the main things he tries to instill in his students are always having a good attitude and always giving a good effort.

He added, “I tell them to control what they can control. There’s going to be things that you fail at, whether it’s sports-related or not, but it’s how you respond in those situations that counts.”

He continued, “Another thing that I stress is having that blue-collar mentality – put in the work to get to where you want to go. Give your best effort in everything you do.”
