GERING – Bob Kraft has been attending Grace Chapel in Scottsbluff for 24 years. He’s on the Praise Team – he plays the acoustic rhythm guitar and also sings – and he also helps with the church’s slide boards. He used to be on the leadership team. He and his wife, Mary, have been married for 44 years, and they have one child, David, who’s 30 and who was born with Down Syndrome. Bob and Mary have lived in Gering for 44 years.

Bob was born and raised in Torrington, and he graduated from Torrington High School in 1966. After attending EWC for a couple years, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Chadron State College in 1970. He then served in the Navy from January 1971 to December 1974. In 1975, he started teaching at Gering Junior High School, and he was there for 18 years. He then ran his own home-based computer business and was an adjunct professor at WNCC in Scottsbluff for seven years. In 2000, he became a full-time instructor at WNCC, where he taught computer classes until he retired in 2013.

Kraft, who’s 73, said he has a lot to be grateful for, including being cancer-free for two years.

Q: How much have you enjoyed attending Grace Chapel?

KRAFT: “Going to Grace Chapel has been a big blessing to me. I’ve learned so much through the teachings that have been done there. When we first started going there, Rich Peterson was the pastor – his brother, Bruce, is the pastor now. Every Sunday morning that we go to church is like having a spiritual prime rib. I’ve grown so much in my faith. I’ve learned how much God loves me and how free I am in Christ. I don’t have to work my way to Heaven; Jesus has done all the work for me through his blood on the cross. What I’ve learned at Grace Chapel has been phenomenal. Also, the friendships we’ve made there are truly special. We’ve been involved in a variety of ministries at the church over the years. Mary is currently one of the nursery directors. Our son, David, enjoyed going to youth group back in the day, and he still looks forward to going to church because he knows he’ll be spiritually fed that morning – all of us will. Going to Grace Chapel and worshipping with our fellow believers is an integral part of our lives, for sure.”
