ECKERBERG’S OUTDOOR COLUMN: Just because it’s winter, that doesn’t mean you need to put your bicycle away

PHILIP ECKERBERG

Nspire Today! Outdoor Columnist

I realize most readers think of bicycle riding as a summer activity, but just because the calendar says it’s winter, that doesn’t mean the bicycle needs to stay in the shed.

Having said that, I do have a strict policy of not riding my bicycle on snow and ice. The risk of a tire sliping while going around a corner is too great. I don’t care to spend several more months out of commission because I was being stupid. (Keep in mind, though, there are winter resorts that have winterized fat tire bicycles that can be ridden on groomed snow trails. I would like to try that sometime.)
