FEATURE: A heart for the Humane Society

Amy Bartholomew has adopted animals from the Panhandle Humane Society in Scottsbluff, and she later became a volunteer there. She ended up working there as the office manager, and in 2017 she became the executive director. She’s still in that position today – a position that she loves and that is very rewarding to her.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Amy Bartholomew remembers one of the first times she visited the Panhandle Humane Society in Scottsbluff.

“In 1997 we were moving from California to Connecticut. My in-laws lived here, so we stopped at the shelter and got a puppy,” she said. “So, I have experience from a long time ago of being a customer of the Humane Society.”

Later in life – around 2016, to be precise – Bartholomew returned to the Panhandle Humane Society. But this time it was so she and her husband could volunteer there.

“We started walking dogs and stuff, mainly for him starting his dog training business,” she said. “We were looking to find ways to network and get people to know us because we had just moved here from California.”
