FEATURE: A love for helping seniors

Lucille Cooper, who lived in Lisco for about 60 years before moving to Scottsbluff three years ago, has always enjoyed lending a helping hand to the older population. Even now at 80 years old, Cooper still loves volunteering her time to help seniors by delivering them meals, playing games like bingo and dominoes with them, checking on their well being, or simply enjoying a nice conversation with them.

SCOTTSBLUFF – When Lucille Cooper retired 11 years ago after spending 30 years running grocery stores in Lisco and Dalton, she knew she wanted to fill up her free time by helping others.

On the first day she was retired, she said a prayer, asking God for guidance.

“I remember looking up at the ceiling and saying, ‘God, what do you want me to do today that is important to someone else?’” she said. “I had just spent 30 years of my life serving other people in the grocery stores, so I asked God to help me continue to serve people. I didn’t want that to come to an end just because I had retired.”
