FEATURE: A music-filled life

Robin Schmidt of Scottsbluff developed a passion for playing the piano at an early age. She’s continued to play the piano over the years, including being an accompanist for Theatre West. She also loves teaching other people how to play the piano, both through private lessons and as an adjunct teacher at WNCC. Whether it’s teaching or playing the piano, Schmidt says she lives for the musical talents God gifted her.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Robin Schmidt was born to play the piano. It comes so naturally to her, in fact, that she knew how to play even before being taught.

“It’s crazy because I was about eight years old when I first played the piano,” she said. “I think my mom sat me down a couple times and showed me a little bit, but other than that, I don’t know how I learned. I just sat down one day and started reading notes. I have no idea how I did it – it’s just a gift. Even nowadays when I try to teach how to read the notes, I have to think outside of my own box and put myself in my students’ shoes to teach them how they can do it because I’m still not sure how I do it.”
