FEATURE: Alliance woman enjoying ‘a work of love’

Anita Allen of Alliance got interested in quilting when she was about 52 years old, and she even bought an expensive longarm quilting machine – even before she had made a quilt. Her years of sewing, however, helped her quickly learn how to quilt, and she’s continued to do that for 22 years, including quilting for other people as part of her Prairie Creations business. Allen, who’s 74 now, said she still loves to quilt, for she loves the happiness her quilting brings to other people.

ALLIANCE – Anita Allen of Alliance wasn’t hesitant – or nervous – about spending $17,000 on a longarm quilting machine in 1999, even though she had never quilted before.

The reason is that she had spent her entire life sewing, so she figured she could make a smooth transition to quilting.

“I dove right in,” the 74-year-old Allen said with a laugh. “I knew I could do it. I thought it would be fun.”
