Jim White followed some of his family member’s footsteps when he decided to join the Navy. He spent four years in the Navy, from 1989 to 1993, and during that time he became a machinist mate, working on steam powered engines.

His grandfather, after all, served in the Navy during World War II, and he had an uncle who served in the Navy, too.
“It was a family thing,” he said.
