FEATURE: Celebrating 125 years

From being the first church building built in Scottsbluff in 1899 to offering music scholarships to college students in 2025, First Presbyterian Church has a strong legacy of serving God and community through worship music and the study of God’s Word.

SCOTTSBLUFF – The First Presbyterian Church (FPC) in Scottsbluff is about to celebrate its 125th anniversary. First Presbyterian Church is currently co-pastored by husband and wife Jeff and April Fiet and is located at 101 East 20th Street in Scottsbluff.

“We will be celebrating on Sunday, March 2, with a special worship service in the sanctuary at 10 a.m. followed by a meal in our fellowship hall,” said Pastor Jeff. “Anyone is welcome, but we have intentionally invited many former pastors, interns, and members to join us. At the service, we will have some great music by our vocal choir and our handbell choir.”

Interestingly enough, there are still some church members who have ties to the original church members, and the pastors credit that generational consistency to their church’s long-standing ability to treat everyone like family.

“John Simmons is a current church member whose family was in the church at the beginning. Chas H. Simmons was one of the original trustees,” said Pastor Jeff. “We also have some families that go back several generations. We currently have a family with four generations who worship at FPC. This church is a family itself, one that nurtures and cares for people and welcomes both friends and strangers.”

Three specific church members – Becky Sorensen, Maurie Deines, and Sandy Beals – were excited at the opportunity to testify as to why they have made FPC their home.
