FEATURE: Chadron High School grad using her artistic talents in New York City

Kodi Lynn Milburn has been involved in the world of performing arts since she was a baby. She was heavily involved in the arts department at Chadron High School, and after graduating from there in 2014, her dream was to continue pursuing her passion in the arts. She’s done just that, using her multiple talents and skills as a playwright, composer, sound designer, performing artist, and stage manager for different productions in New York City. She’s also created some of her own work, including a handful of plays and also three music albums that are on Spotify and iTunes.

CHADRON – Kodi Lynn Milburn doesn’t remember the details of the first performing arts show she was involved in. It’s not her fault, though.

“My first show was when I was a baby in ‘Fiddler on The Roof’,” said the 27-year-old Milburn, who graduated from Chadron High School in 2014.

For as long as Milburn can remember, she’s had a close connection to performing arts – literally. Growing up, her family lived right across the street from the historic Plains Theatre in Rushville.

Her connection to theatre, though, goes well beyond that. Just about everyone in her family, it seems, was involved in performing arts somehow, including her mom and stepdad, grandparents, cousins, and an uncle. Some were talented singers, some were talented actors or actresses, and some were talented instrumentalists.

“My whole family is very musical and has been really involved in the theatrical world,” Milburn said. “Even though they didn’t do it as a full-time career, they held music and performing close to their hearts. It’s always been a big part of their lives.”

It’s been a big part of Milburn’s life, too.
