FEATURE: Eager and ready to serve in the Army

Tyler Nagel of Lyman is excited to serve in the military, just like his father and grandfather did. His dream is to eventually become an Army Ranger, and he believes all the years he spent wrestling, including two successful years at Morrill High School and then another two successful years at Gering High School, have helped him develop the physical and mental toughness to succeed in the Army.

LYMAN – Tyler Nagel was about 10 years old when he and his dad, David Nagel, watched a war movie together at a local theater.

Nagel, who’s 18 now, doesn’t remember much about the movie. But he remembers vividly the conversation he had with his dad after the movie ended.

“He started telling me stories about his experiences in the Navy – like some of the crazy things he saw or was part of overseas,” Tyler said. “I was kind of shocked because up until then, I didn’t know my dad had served in the military.”

Tyler was eager to learn more about his dad’s time in the Navy. He learned that his dad was an electrician on submarines and that he even fired missiles out of submarines.

“I remember thinking, ‘Wow, my dad is pretty cool,’” he said.
