FEATURE: Excited to be back at WestWay Christian Church

Cody Petersen decided when he was attending Scottsbluff High School that he wanted to pursue a career in ministry, and in the back of his mind, he always hoped he would have an opportunity to someday be a pastor at the church – WestWay Christian Church – he grew up in. After spending the last 15 years in ministry outside the Panhandle, Petersen finally got the chance earlier this year to come back to WestWay, where he’s now serving as the pastor of creative arts.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Cody Petersen made up his mind his sophomore year at Scottsbluff High School what he wanted do with his life. He wanted to go into ministry.

“The biggest reason why was because of the impact my pastors – Shane Coop, Aaron Prohs, and Mike Andrews – had on my life,” he said. “They poured into my life so much and really helped me grow. So, I wanted to be able to do the same thing in ministry for other people.”

In the back of his mind, Petersen hoped that someday he would be able to pastor at the same church he grew up in – WestWay Christian Church in Scottsbluff. He maintained that desire throughout the rest of his years at Scottsbluff High School and then at Nebraska Christian College in Papillion.

“But I didn’t know if that’s something that would ever come to fruition,” he said.
