FEATURE: Finding a passion in the art of book folding

Brandy Stark of Alliance learned about book folding seven years ago. She was so impressed that she learned how to do it herself. Since then, she’s made a whopping 338 book folding designs, most of which she’s given away as gifts. One of her biggest projects each year is creating book folding designs for the seniors she teaches at Alliance High School, but she also does book folding for wedding, anniversary and birthday gifts, and she’s also done book folding as a way for people to remember a special loved one.

ALLIANCE – Brandy Stark was teaching at Hemingford High School one day about seven years ago when she noticed something cool lying on the desk in the front office.

It was a book that a student at the time, Cooper Weber, had turned into a brilliant work of art. Weber had used what’s called “book folding” to create the letters “HHS” for Hemingford High School on the outside pages of the book.

Stark was awestruck.

“I thought, ‘That’s so awesome,’” she said. “I had never seen anything like that before.”
