FEATURE: Finding happiness together on the road

At one point, Tammy and Nick Dannar thought they would spend the rest of their lives working on a farm in their hometown of Hemingford. However, they decided to become full-time truck drivers 25 years ago, and nearly 4.5 million miles later, they’re still traveling across the country in their semi. They said it’s been the perfect career for them because of everything they’ve experienced on the road and also because they believe it’s made their marriage even stronger and happier since they get to spend nearly every minute together.

HEMINGFORD – When Tammy and Nick Dannar of Hemingford got married in 1993, they figured they would spend the rest of their lives working on the farm.

Nick, after all, had already spent most of his life up to that point working as a farm hand. He even learned how to drive large trucks at the age of 14.

“I always told people, ‘I like turning dirt,’” Nick said. “I loved being outside on a farm. It was hard work, but it was also peaceful.”
