HARRISBURG – Chris Olsen works and lives in Banner County as a farmer and rancher; however, he does more than plow the ground and tend to cattle.

Olsen is a volunteer firefighter for the Banner County Fire Department. Banner County is about the same size as Scotts Bluff County; however, there are eight different fire departments in Scotts Bluff and just one in Banner County.

Olsen took a similar path into firefighting as many other volunteers do: He followed the footsteps of his parents.

“My dad and mom were on the fire department. Dad was a firefighter and  EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) and mom was an EMT,” he said. “I got introduced in 1994, and that was the year I started. I have been doing it ever since.”
