After spending a number of years competing in rodeo, Riley Haug, a 2014 Gering High School graduate, spent several years away from the sport he grew to love. His wife, Lexi, could tell there was something important missing in his life, so she encouraged him last year to get involved in rodeo again by bringing a rodeo back to the Scotts Bluff County Fair. He committed to doing just that, and after months of hard work and lots of determination, the Champions Challenge, organized by Haug Rodeo Production, is set to take place Aug. 1 in Mitchell. The event will feature not only many of the top rodeo competitors in the world but also several amazing specialty acts. Riley said he’s grateful and excited to be part of such a big rodeo, which he said ‘could be the biggest sporting event to ever hit this area’

MITCHELL – As a youngster growing up on a ranch near Kimball, Riley Haug spent a lot of time going to rodeos in the region with his family.
He always hoped that someday he himself would be able to compete in rodeos.
“I was especially fascinated with bull riding,” he said. “So, that’s what I wanted to do when I got older – be a professional bull rider.”
