FEATURE: ‘I feel blessed that God called me to do this’

Tim Hebbert served in many different ministries at Gering Zion Church for about 32 years, but one thing he said he would never do was become a pastor. About 12 years ago while serving in concert ministry, however, Hebbert said God began calling him to prepare to take over the pastor position at Gering Zion when his dad retired. Although he was reluctant at first, Hebbert said he was obedient to God’s plan, and he became Gering Zion’s pastor four years later. Hebbert is now in his 8th year as the church’s pastor, and he feels mighty blessed, for he says he wouldn’t want to be doing anything else.

GERING – For about 32 years, Tim Hebbert served in just about every area of ministry at Gering Zion Church in Gering.

He helped with the children’s ministry and an adult ministry, he directed the choir, and he also led the worship team for a number of years.

He was always eager and willing to help his dad, Paul Hebbert, who served as the church’s lead pastor for 41 years.

There was one thing, however, that Tim said he would never do in church – serve as a lead pastor.

“The people at Gering Zion have been amazing to my dad and loved him, but his early years in ministry were hard and difficult,” Tim said. “Being a pastor comes with a lot of stresses and worries, so it’s not the easiest job in the world. After seeing my dad go through some tough times early in his ministry, I didn’t see myself ever serving in that role. It’s not something I wanted to do.”
