Chris Miller, who grew up in McGrew and graduated from Bayard High School in 1987, enjoyed a remarkable 30-year career as a member of the United States Coast Guard. His service to the country impressed a company in Louisiana so much that it recently decided to name one of its ships – a beautiful and specially-designed towboat – after Miller.

BAYARD – Chris Miller’s mouth dropped in mid-February when he saw the new, specially-designed towboat resting in the Harvey Canal in New Orleans.
The 2,000-horsepower, one-of-a-kind towboat was built specifically by Maritime Partners, LLC, to honor the 30 years that Miller had spent serving the country as a member of the United States Coast Guard.
The boat is named after Miller, and to make sure others recognize Miller’s legacy to the country, his first and last names were beautifully emblazoned on the side of the massive vessel.
“It’s amazing,” said Miller, who grew up in McGrew and graduated from Bayard High School in 1987.
