FEATURE: ‘I really believe this is what I was meant to do’

Judy Anderson of Kimball learned how to sew when she was 7 years old so she could make clothes for her dolls. Her passion for sewing continued to grow after that, and for the last 7 decades, the 76-year-old Anderson has been using her impressive sewing skills to create amazing wedding gowns and other types of dresses and clothes for people. She’s rarely charged much, if anything, for her work because her main focus is simply on making other people happy.

KIMBALL – Judy Anderson always admired her mom’s sewing skills, especially since it meant Judy got to wear a new outfit every now and then.

“I loved the new clothes my mom made because I didn’t get them very often and, secondly, it was a real treat to be dressed so pretty,” Judy said.

As a child, Judy wanted her dolls to look pretty, too. So, she would often ask her mom if she would make some pretty outfits for her dolls.

Eventually, Judy’s mom, Alta Harris, showed her daughter how to sew by hand so she could make her own doll clothes.

“At that time, I was too young to use the sewing machine – I was only about seven – but my mom showed me how to do it by hand, and I caught on pretty quickly,” Judy said.
