Brad Brothers of Dix, a veteran who also is a former firefighter and EMT, took on a new challenge six years ago when he became a Boys Scouts/Cub Scouts assistant leader. He enjoyed helping out so much that he moved into the main scout leader position about four years ago when the program transitioned into the Potter Lions Club Lion Cubs, a program that’s similar to Boys Scouts/Cub Scouts. Brothers said he’s developed a passion for helping youth mature, and despite being a disabled veteran, he also carves out time in his busy schedule to help people in a number of other ways, including teaching concealed handgun courses and self defense courses for domestic violence survivors.

DIX – Brad Brothers of Dix spent about six years serving in the National Guard, and he also spent quite a bit of time serving as a firefighter and EMT for the Potter Volunteer Fire Department.
He felt comfortable doing both of those, but when he was asked to help be a volunteer for the Boys Scouts and Cub Scouts in Kimball about six years ago, well, that was a different story.
“I was probably one of the most scared recruits they had ever had in the program,” Brothers said with a laugh. “I was fine being a firefighter and EMT and then serving in the military overseas because that was adult-oriented, but working with kids was an entirely different demographic for me. I was nervous and concerned about it.”
