FEATURE: ‘I would have never imagined myself doing what I’m doing right now’

Missy Marsh spent 15 years working in the catering business in several big cities for Hilton Hotels & Resorts and Marriott Hotels & Resorts. She planned a number of big events, including all of The White House Correspondence Dinners during Barack Obama’s years as President of the United States. Although Marsh enjoyed her job, the impact that covid had on the event and tourism industry caused her to make a big career change. She returned to the area where she grew up – around Peetz and Potter – and started her own catering business. She’s now not only running that successful business but is also doing something else she’s always dreamed of doing – running her own restaurant. She took over as the owner of the famous Potter Sundry in October, and she has plans to expand her business model even more next year, when she expects to open a new grocery store, called “The Farmer’s Daughter,” right next to the Potter Sundry.

POTTER – Reflecting on her childhood, one of the memories Missy Marsh recalls is her family driving every now and then from their farm near Peetz, Colorado, to Potter, Nebraska.

It was about a 20-mile journey, and it was a drive that their whole family looked forward to because of the destination – the famous Potter Sunday, located in downtown Potter.

“There used to be a steakhouse next to the Potter Sundry, so we would eat dinner there first and then go over to the Potter Sundry to get Tin Roof Sundaes,”  Marsh said. “We really enjoyed that.”
