Juewl Grubbs, a 2015 Banner County High School graduate, worked at Backaracks for about three years before the owners, including her older sister Rachel Sams, asked her if she would consider becoming the restaurant’s general manager. Grubbs accepted the position in March 2019, and since then, the 23-year-old has been thriving in that role.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Juewl Grubbs was working part-time at Backaracks in Scottsbluff one day when she struck up a conversation with a customer who was one of the managers at Fremont Motor.
After learning more about Grubbs, including her dedication to her job and her pleasant personality, the gentleman at Fremont Motor encouraged Grubbs to consider being a salesperson at his dealership.
“I didn’t know anything about cars, but I was interested in the idea,” she said.
About a month later, she decided to go for it, mostly after hearing some people, including some of her friends, tell her that she wouldn’t be good at selling cars – both because she was only 21 years old at the time and also because she was a woman.
“That really motivated me,” she said with a laugh. “I thought, ‘I can do this.’”
She did, proving her critics wrong as she became a successful salesperson at Fremont Motor.
“I had no idea what I was doing going into it, but I was determined to learn and be good at it,” she said. “I had some help, but for the most part, I kind of taught myself everything I needed to know about selling cars. It became something that I was really passionate about, and I felt like I was pretty good at it, too.”
The confidence that Grubbs gained as an auto salesperson – not to mention the success she had selling vehicles – came in handy about a year and a half later when she found herself with another exciting, but challenging opportunity. Her sister, Rachel Sams, who is 16 years older than Juewl, became a co-owner of Backaracks with Terry Lyle in March 2019. Sams, knowing how reliable and hard-working her younger sister was, didn’t hesitate to ask Grubbs if she would consider taking over the general manager duties at Backaracks.
Grubbs, who was only 22 years old at the time, was somewhat in disbelief.
“It’s not often that you see someone who’s 22 be a general manager,” she said. “It was a great opportunity for me at such a young age. I’m really grateful they were willing to take a chance on me.”
