FEATURE: ‘It’s incredible how my life has changed’

Brea Sifuentez of Sidney talks about her amazing recovery from a life that used to be filled with using and selling drugs, frequent run-ins with the law, and making other bad decisions, including some that nearly took her life. The young Sidney mother couldn’t be happier now, for she’s living a productive life that she and her family can be proud of. She’s also made it her mission to help others climb out of a dark hole like she was once in.

SIDNEY – Brea Sifuentez remembers feeling lonely, abandoned, depressed, and angry for most of her middle school years.

One reason is that her father had left the family before she was even born, and her mom battled drug, alcohol and gambling addictions, which often led to heated arguments between Brea and her mom.

“At first, the arguing started because she was always at the bar, so she was never home,” said Brea, who’s 25 now and lives in Sidney. “She would put us kids to bed at night, and then I would see the car headlights come on outside as she was backing up to go to the bar. I was so mad, but she kept doing it. She never came home, so I ended up taking care of my younger sister more than she did.”
