FEATURE: “I’ve always wanted to help people’

Glen Eberspecher, a Sioux County High School graduate who now lives in Mitchell, is excited that he gets to fulfill two of his biggest passions in life on a regular basis. He helps youth at Mitchell Public Schools – first as an industrial technology teacher and now as the IT director – and he also responds to emergency calls as a rescue captain and paramedic for the Mitchell Volunteer Fire Department.

MITCHELL – Glen Eberspecher was a freshman at Sioux County High School in 1979 when he received some devastating news.

His grandfather, Marion Hall, a county employee who had been helping to move snow off some roads in eastern Harrison, suffered a heart attack. Unfortunately, there wasn’t anyone around who knew how to perform CPR. Hall passed away before EMTs arrived.

“That was really tough, knowing that nobody was around who could help him,” Eberspecher said. “After that happened, I really got interested in the medical field because I wanted to be able to help someone else in an emergency situation like my grandpa was in. I wanted to be able to make a difference for other people.”
