FEATURE: Kimball girl uses her ‘giving heart’ during the holidays

8-year-old Adie Weinbender decided on her own in December to use money she had earned doing chores to buy a stuffed animal that she could donate to the Toys for CASA of Scotts Bluff County Fundraiser. The second-grader now is making special pillow cases that she plans to give to local foster kids.

KIMBALL – When 8-year-old Adie Weinbender of Kimball learned late last year that her parents, Kandi and Rick Weinbender, had purchased a gift card to donate to the Nspire Today!/Western Plains Business Solutions Toys for CASA of Scotts Bluff County Fundraiser, an idea immediately popped into her head.

She wanted to use a big portion of the money she had earned doing chores to also contribute to the fundraiser.

“We were doing some Christmas shopping one day, and I thought it would be nice to do something for the foster kids,” said Adie, a second-grader at Mary Lynch Elementary School in Kimball. “I have a lot of toys, so I didn’t need another one for myself. I thought, ‘I would rather give one to a foster kid.”
