Connie and Erny Bussinger of Scottsbluff were high school sweethearts, and they ended up tying the knot on Valentine’s Day in 1970. They say their relationship has only gotten stronger over the decades, and they’re excited to celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary this month.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Connie Bussinger remembers the day like it was yesterday.
She and her friend, Sue, went to the swimming pool in Bassett, Nebraska, one day during the summer of 1963 – just before Connie started her freshman year at Rock County High School.
Connie was getting ready to go into the water when she noticed a boy about her age sitting on a bench a few feet away from the pool. The boy was Sue’s older brother, Erny.
“He caught my eye,” said the 74-year-old Connie, who’s now been married to Erny, 76, for 53 years. “I thought he was very cute.”
