FEATURE: Overcoming years of devastation

Beverley Reuland of Scottsbluff lost two babies as a teenager, and soon after that, she had three baby girls who were all born deaf. Reuland’s heartache continued as her first husband suddenly abandoned their family when she was just 24. Her trials didn’t end there, though, as she later got re-married but had a very difficult marriage. That was followed by her nearly dying after having a surgery. Adding to her misery is that nine years ago she lost another one of her children to cancer. Despite all of that heartache and devastation, though, Reuland, who’s 75 now, possesses a joyful and peaceful heart. And she hopes to bring other girls out of despair by sharing her story in a series of four books that she began writing 25 years ago. Her first book published last fall, and she’s aiming to publish her second book later this year.

SCOTTSBLUFF – Back when Beverley Reuland was 50 years old, she received a new computer from her oldest daughter, JoDee.

The store where the computer came from was going out of business, causing the cost of the computers to be significantly reduced.

JoDee figured her mom, who was a Christian school teacher, would benefit from having a new computer.

“But other than maybe writing lesson plans or writing newsletters for my students, I wasn’t sure what else I was going to use that new computer for,” Beverley said.
