FEATURE: Scottsbluff’s Wentz says being a teacher ‘fills my heart’

Jody Wentz of Scottsbluff worked in the business world for 20 years before deciding to pursue her other passion in life – teaching. She’s now in her 14th year as a business teacher at Bluffs Middle School, and she couldn’t be happier, for she loves making a positive impact on kids. Her hard work and dedication in the classroom haven’t gone unnoticed as she recently received an Excellence in Education Award from the Scottsbluff Public Schools Foundation.

SCOTTSBLUFF – As a student at Scottsbluff High School in the mid-’80s, Jody Wentz had a deep interest in the business world.

“I had some great business teachers in high school, so that made me enjoy it even more,” she said. “I took all the business courses I could.”

Wentz got her first real taste of the business world the summer before her senior year started. The then 17-year-old was part of the school’s placement program that allowed students to gain some experience in the field they were interested in. Wentz’s business teacher helped her land a job working at what was then called Scottsbluff National Bank.

“It was a great experience,” she said.
