Sidney senior Lydia Peters came into this cross country season determined to have her best performance ever. She got off to a strong start, but then she became ill midway through the season, hampering her running performance and causing her to wonder if she would be able to bounce back in time for the biggest races of the season. The Red Raider team captain vowed to give it her best shot, though, and she ended up having an incredible finish, for she not only medaled at state for the first time but also helped the Sidney girls capture the Class C state team championship in surprising fashion.

SIDNEY – Being a senior, Lydia Peters of Sidney wanted nothing more than to have her best season of high school cross country this fall – not just for herself but also for the team.
She got what she was looking for in the first few weeks of the season, as her hard training during the summer and determination helped her achieve high places and solid times in meets.
But then toward the middle of the season, Peters started to feel a little sluggish, preventing her from getting the times and places she wanted to get. It didn’t help, either, that she was battling a head cold.
“It was frustrating because everyone wants to do their best their senior year,” she said. “I was struggling, but I had hope that things would turn around.”
