FEATURE: ‘To me, he’s perfect’

Grady Bondegard, a 10-year-old boy from Crawford, has cerebral palsy and a seizure disorder. However, that hasn’t prevented him from putting a smile on other people’s faces, including his mom, RaNae Calder, who said her son has given her the ultimate gift as he’s ‘completely changed who I am as a person for the better’

CRAWFORD – Grady Bondegard can’t walk or even stand, so in order for him to move around, he has to use a wheelchair or crawl.

The 10-year-old Crawford boy is also considered to be legally blind, and he wears shorts year-round because his body can’t regulate heat very well. In addition, he has the cognitive ability of a 10-month-old. His speech is limited to about five to 10 words, including the words “yes” and “no.”

“He’ll let you know if he doesn’t like something, which is usually by crying,” said his mom, RaNae Calder, who graduated from Crawford High School in 1995.

Calder smiles, though, every time she looks at her son.

“I tell him every day he’s my favorite person in the world,” she said.
