FEATURE: Gering man using hunting adventures to help veterans

Chris Kniss of Gering loves hunting – and leading others to Christ. That’s why he’s had a blast the last few years being part of Doose Outfitters Ministry, which helps heal veterans past and present through the message of the cross and local hunting trips

GERING – Chris Kniss of Gering is an ordained minister, but he doesn’t exactly work in traditional ministry.

What he does is help heal veterans past and present through the message of the cross and outdoor hunting adventures. He does this as part of Doose Outfitters Ministry.

“There is a need in our veteran and active duty military community because of PTS and combat stress disorder,” he said. “Those things quite often lead to suicide. A lot of these individuals have fallen away from their relationship with Christ or, quite honestly, some haven’t even established a relationship with Him.”

So far, the mission has been quite successful, Kniss said.

“We are at 187 veterans that we have served since 2017. That is when we started keeping track of the numbers,” he said. “This year we ought to easily surpass 200 veterans or active duty members that we have been able to impact.”
