FEATURE: ‘We wanted to do this for our community’

Dawn and Kevin Moeser, and Rich and Kelli Patterson never intended to someday own their own restaurant. But when someone needed to step up to help keep the Kimball Event Center running, the Moesers and Pattersons and their families answered the call, for they wanted to keep the building a vibrant and key part of the Kimball community. Therefore, they purchased the building in March 2020, and they ended up turning it into The Sagebrush, a cool-looking and large facility that includes a restaurant with delicious food, a comfortable lounge area, nice-looking conference/meeting rooms, and even a game room for kids that’s filled with numerous retro arcade games.

KIMBALL – Dawn Moeser was working at her flower shop, Hometown Floral in downtown Kimball, one day when her older brother, Rich Patterson, walked in with a serious look on his face.

Patterson, who owned the Hometown Hardware store located right next to Hometown Floral, wanted to ask his sister a question.

“He said, ‘What do you think about putting in a bid for the Kimball Event Center,’” Moeser said.

The Kimball Event Center had been a key part of the town for many years. The large facility hosted a number of wedding receptions, graduation receptions, business meetings, dances, and a variety of other fun events. Even elections and blood drives have been held there.

But while the Kimball Event Center was an important part of the community, the City of Kimball, which owned the facility at the time, was looking to turn the building over to someone else to take care of, Moeser said.

Patterson figured he and his sister and other members of their families could purchase it and then operate it.

Moeser, though, wasn’t crazy about the idea at first.

“When he asked me if we should put in a bid, I said, ‘Are you nuts?’” she said with a laugh. “He said, ‘No, let’s do it.’”
