Shirley Ruff, who lives at The Residency in Scottsbluff, learned to cross-stitch after she retired from Scottsbluff Public Schools in 1993, and she’s been enjoying that hobby ever since then and has even won several awards for her cross-stitching work

SCOTTSBLUFF – When Shirley Ruff retired in 1993 after spending 24 years as a secretary at Lincoln Heights Elementary School in Scottsbluff, she was given a retirement gift by one of her close friends.

It was an embroidery kit.

“When I saw it, I told my friend, ‘Now, you know I don’t like to do embroidery,’” Ruff said with a grin.
