Growing up as a preacher’s kid, Calvin Arnold wanted nothing to do with preaching as a career for himself. He continued to reject that idea even years after graduating from high school in Kansas. But seven years ago, Arnold and his family visited some friends in Scottsbluff, and they attended a church service together at Bluffview Church of Christ in Scottsbluff. A few weeks later, Arnold found himself accepting an offer to become the church’s full-time pastor, and he’s still in that position today. Looking back, Arnold said he couldn’t be any happier about the path that God has sent him on.

SCOTTSBLUFF – For much of his life growing up, Calvin Arnold had no interest in ever becoming a pastor.
He developed that attitude after watching his dad serve for years as the pastor of the church they attended, the Church of Christ in Hutchinson, Kansas.
“I didn’t like the expectations that I felt were being placed on me for being the pastor’s kid – expectations not from my parents but from other people in the church,” Arnold said. “As a preacher’s kid, there were certain things that I felt like I couldn’t talk about, and there were certain things that I felt like I couldn’t be honest about. I felt like I had to be perfect at everything. I got very good at acting and playing my role as the preacher’s kid, but I didn’t like it.”
