Philip Eckerberg, of Gering, has been named Nspire Today!’s Hometown Hero of the Week, sponsored by Schank Roofing in Scottsbluff.
Eckerberg is in his 25th year serving as a member of the Scottsbluff Police Department. Before that, he worked three years for the Morrill Police Department, four months for the Bayard Police Department, one year for the Lyman Police Department, and one year for Scotts Bluff County Communications.
Eckerberg was in the military for three years, serving at the United States Army Military Police Schofield Barracks in Hawaii.
Eckerberg, who’s lived in Gering most of his life, is married and has five children. He said his favorite food is rib eye steak, and he enjoys photography, bicycle riding, and hiking.
The person who nominated Eckerberg said, “He’s always been very dedicated to his job. He cares about everyone and wants everyone to be safe. I’m blessed that I’ve had a chance to know Philip for a long time. He’s always treated people with respect and kindness, and he always goes out of his way to help people – even if that means sacrificing time with his own family. He’s a great role model for young people in our community. I would like to see him honored as the Hometown Hero of the Week because he definitely deserves it!”
