TORRINGTON – For Colby Sandusky, wrestling has never been something he simply does. It is something he is. Long before the medals, the podium finishes, and the pressure-packed state tournament matches, wrestling was already woven into the fabric of his life — through family dinners, weekend travel, early-morning practices, and years of quiet sacrifice that few people ever see.
Now a senior at Torrington High School, Sandusky carries himself with a calm confidence that comes not from hype or expectation, but from repetition, discipline, and a deep understanding of what the sport demands. His journey is not defined by a single championship or record. Instead, it is a story of steady growth, personal accountability, and a love for wrestling that has matured alongside him.
Sandusky’s introduction to wrestling did not come through a flyer, a coach’s suggestion, or a late decision to try something new. It came at home.
“What made me first start wrestling was my dad and my brothers,” Sandusky said. “We’ve all been wrestling since we were really young, and I’ve stuck with it since then.”
