Harold Schillereff has been named Nspire Today!’s Hometown Hero of the Week, sponsored by Schank Roofing in Scottsbluff.
Schillereff, a resident at Western Nebraska Veterans Home, served in the Army during the Korean War from Nov. 25, 1953, to Feb. 15, 1957. He pulled guard duty and bridge duty. He received a Korea Defense service medal.
Schillereff, who was born in McCook, spent much of his life in the Scottsbluff area. He worked on a farm in the summers and worked at the Sugar Factory in the winters. He also worked for the railroad and retired from there.
Schillereff and his wife, who also lives at the Western Nebraska Veterans Home, have six kids – one son and five daughters.
