Larry Olson, who lived in Chadron for 31 years before moving to Crawford about 20 years ago, has always loved hunting, fishing and doing other outdoor activities. Something else he’s been passionate about is teaching other people – both kids and adults – about the outdoors. That’s why the 62-year-old Olson has enjoyed showing hundreds of people how to fish and hunt over the years.

CRAWFORD – During his 32 years as a mail carrier – 31 of those years in Chadron – Larry Olson got to know many of the people on his route pretty well.
He would often talk to them about fishing and hunting – two of his favorite activities. Sometimes they would even go hunting or fishing together.
“If I met someone on my mail route who was interested in hunting or fishing, I would usually offer to take them with me,” said Olson, who moved to Crawford several years ago after spending many years living in Chadron. “Sometimes I would take a kid fishing or hunting, and there were some adults I went with, too. There were also a lot of college kids on my mail route, so if they were interested in the outdoors, I would take many of those kids with me. It was fun. I’m still friends with many of them.”
