HEMINGFORD – Jace Stumpff, a senior at Hemingford High School, has been named Nspire Today!’s Male Student of the Week, sponsored by First State Bank. He’s involved in FFA, National Honor Society and 4-H. His GPA is a 3.75. He’s been on the Honor Roll each semester of high school. His parents are Rob and Kris.

Q: How many years have you been in 4-H?

STUMPFF: “Ever since I was 8, so about 10 years.”

Q: To you, how important is getting excellent grades?

STUMPFF: “Grades have always been very important to me. The reason I say that is it shows the character you are, and I want to display good character. Like right now, I have one B, and I’m a little upset about it, but I’m going to keep working at it to try to get all A’s.”

Q: Has it been pretty challenging over the years to maintain a high GPA?

STUMPFF: “It has been a little challenging. The biggest challenge to me is English class. That’s my hardest class. Everything else I can do pretty good.”

Q: What is your favorite class this year?

STUMPFF: “My favorite class is pre-calc.”

Q: How many years have you been involved in FFA?

STUMPFF: “Ever since seventh grade.”

Q: Why do you enjoy being involved in FFA?

STUMPFF: “What I enjoy about FFA is it’s about agriculture, and agriculture means a lot to me. Another thing I like about it is what we do. We help our community a lot.”

Q: How has being involved in FFA helped shape you as an individual?

STUMPFF: “It’s helped me grow as a person. My teachers have taught me a lot about animals and agriculture.”

Q: Which teacher do you feel has made the biggest influence on you?

STUMPFF: “There are two teachers who have made a big influence on me: my math teacher Lisa Janssen and my biology teacher Brad Olson. They’ve always made school fun for me. With Mr. Olson, I can talk to him about everything. He’s always been there and has helped me get through anything. He also makes learning fun. With Mrs. Janssen, she also makes learning fun because we do our math, but we can also talk to her about other topics, like farming. I like that I can always ask her, ‘Hello, Mrs. Janssen, how do I do this?’ She’ll help me get through it.”

Q: What are your plans after you graduate from high school?

STUMPFF: “After high school, I plan to go to EWC for two years, and then after that I’d like to go to the University of Wyoming to get my degree in agriculture education and, hopefully, become an ag teacher.”

Q: After college, would you like to return to the Alliance/Hemingford area?

STUMPFF: “Yes, I would like to be close to my parents. But I’m not 100 percent sure where I’ll end up.”

Q: How did you get interested in becoming an ag teacher?

STUMPFF: “Agriculture is something that I’ve always been into, and I like working with kids.”

Q: Have you always lived on a ranch in Alliance?

STUMPFF: “No, originally I grew up north of Hyannis on a bigger ranch, but then we moved to the Alliance area because of my dad’s job.”

Q: How much have you enjoyed living on the ranch?

STUMPFF: “I love it. I enjoy it a lot because it gives me something to do that I like.”

Q: Why did you decide to go to EWC and then UW?

STUMPFF: “I picked Torrington because it’s close to home and also because I’d like to be on the livestock showing team there. I picked the University of Wyoming because it’s also fairly close to home.”
